Our purpose

We believe that our purpose as a church is to fulfill the Great Commandment (Luke 10:27) and the Great Commission (Matt. 28:19-20) that Jesus Christ has given us in His Word.

We accomplish this purpose through:

Seeking - Love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind… We demonstrate our love for the Lord by our worship and way of life.

Serving - …and love thy neighbor as thyself. We serve the Lord by caring for and helping all people.

Sharing - Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. We share the Gospel by our spoken witness combined with our lifestyle.

Standing - Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. We stand for Jesus by educating people in the truth of the Word of God and applying it to a life that brings glory to God.

Our History

Northside Baptist Mission was started on New Street, New Albany, MS in 1942. The first services were held in a yard with lumber used as benches. When the rains came, services moved inside homes along New Street. After some time, First Baptist Church rented a concrete block building located on New Street for the congregation to hold services in. First Baptist also sent preachers and Sunday school teachers to edify the members of the body of Christ. In 1949, land was purchased and construction on a concrete block building was started to honor our Lord.

There were approximately 20 young couples in the community who donated their time to build the mission building with the materials being provided by First Baptist Church. There were many elements put into getting a church building constructed – much prayer, hard work, sweat, love, faith and tears. And God blessed those efforts. Most of those who worked to start this congregation and construct a building have seen family members and friends come to know Jesus as Savior here.

The church was constituted into a full Southern Baptist Church on May 18, 1958.

Through the years there were 3 major additions to the original church building. Our present Church building was finished in 1995 on Highway 15 North. This building was paid off and note burned in October 2000.

To God be the glory for all good, especially the salvation of souls, in which He has been pleased to use Northside Baptist Church. We now trust that God will help us to again build this church in the foundation of our Lord Jesus Christ and our congregation will join together in using this church for building tools of faith, love, spiritual gifts and preaching the Gospel.
